Babcock is a leading provider of critical, complex engineering services across defence, emergency services and civil nuclear markets in the UK and more widely across the globe.
Our business in Plymouth is a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
To make the most of the opportunities Babcock has to offer, you’ll need to have great technical skills, along with the drive and aspiration to develop your career. Our graduates will have the opportunity to use and apply their knowledge and skills, gained from either engineering or business degrees, to help us deliver our world-class programmes, develop new technologies and offer innovative solutions for our customers.
Your development programme will have a strong focus on undertaking a number of different placements which will be agreed in line with evolving business requirements and provide you with a high level of on-the-job training. You will also be given the fantastic opportunity to network and share your experiences through our modular two-year graduate development programme. Through these experiences you will understand the pivotal role you will play in our future success, how we function as an organisation, the importance of our customers and the wider business environment in which we operate.
Depending on your programme your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other Marine sector locations. As many of our programmes are available at more than one location you will have the opportunity, at the end of the online application form, to select a second and/or third choice location that you would want your application to be considered for.
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE BUT IF WE DO NOT MEET OUR REQUIRED QUOTA WE WILL REOPEN THE ROLE SO PLEASE CHECK BACK ON A REGULAR BASIS.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
This is a wide-ranging programme. You’ll learn about everything from resourcing and talent management, organisation development, employment law and employee relations, to bid and contract support, and project management. You’ll see how we work closely with the business to create the strategies that find and retain the best people and develop the skills our business needs. Project by project, you’ll learn how to support different disciplines in different parts of our business.
WHAT YOU’LL GET OUT OF IT
Once you have sight of the big picture, you’ll have a much better idea of what you want to do with your career. We can help you figure that out and provide you with all the support you need to achieve professional status, such as with the CIPD. And while you work towards that, you’ll enjoy a competitive starting salary of £29k - £31k.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You’ll need a 2:2 (Hons) degree in Business Management, Law, Psychology or another relevant subject. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
In addition to the above requirements, in our Aviation sector the graduate programme spans across a number of UK and international contracts, therefore, multilingual skills and international experience are hugely valuable to us. Alongside our UK-based graduates, we are actively looking for candidates that are flexible and willing to undertake international placements and use their existing language skills to add value to our sector. Being able to work with and amongst different cultures and backgrounds is vitally important within our organisation, so please ensure that any language or international experience is highlighted within your CV and application form.
