What you’ll be doing

Our Defence and Security Division employs is a leading provider of estate management, equipment support and military training to all three Armed Services. So you’ll be working in the head office of a world-class business, gaining insights about our day-to-day operations. This will include hands-on experience of real work in your department and input into live projects. And we’ll show you around some of our operational sites and give you the chance to gain a more complete perspective of the wider business.

 

What you’ll get out of it

We offer these positions for people who require industrial placements as part of their course. During your time with us, we’ll help you develop a variety of management skills and give you the chance to work with supportive and knowledgeable professionals. At the end of your placement you’ll be able to interview for a graduate position with us – if you’re successful, you’ll be in a great position for your final year at university. And of course you will receive a £17,000 salary while you’re here.

 

What you’ll need

We are looking for high fliers who are on track for a 2:1 and hold 300 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent). We’ll also want you to demonstrate a real interest in business and show excellent interpersonal skills. Due to the nature of our business you’ll also need to meet our stringent Ministry of Defence security clearance requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Defence Systems Technology (DST) is a business unit within the Marine and Technology Division of Babcock International Group. DST works on a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects for a number of key clients, both domestically and internationally. The business continues to win new work and is growing at a significant pace. As a result, we’re looking to recruit talented, enthusiastic and driven people to join our team.

During your placement, you’ll work as a member of a multi-disciplinary, professional engineering team and have the opportunity to contribute to the business straight away. To succeed in this role, it’s essential that you have a positive attitude, as well as a creative and inquisitive approach to problem solving.

MARINE AND TECHNOLOGY – PLYMOUTHLearn more and apply

What you’ll be doing

Spend your placement year based at Western Europe’s largest naval base and you’ll have the perfect opportunity to turn theory into practice and experience. As a strategic partner to the MOD and the Royal Navy, we’re able to undertake 100% of submarine refits as well as around 75% of UK surface fleet refits and 50% of fleet maintenance work. So you’ll get an overview of all aspects of engineering, from design and manufacture to repair and maintenance. You could be based in one of our design offices working with our submarine or warship design teams. Or we may even put you on a project management placement where you’ll be liaising with multiple teams.

 

What you’ll get out of it

Typically, you can expect to cover three or four placements during your year, covering different departments. Moving around the business in this way will give you a wider variety of experience to take with you back to university. You’ll find half of the entire Royal Navy surface fleet based in Devonport, Plymouth – including Type 23 frigates, the Amphibious Assault Fleet and their hydrographic vessels – so there’s a huge amount to learn. At the end of your placement you’ll be able to interview for a graduate position with us – if you’re successful, you’ll be in a great position for your final year at university. And of course you will receive a £19,000 salary while you’re here.

 

What you’ll need

You’ll need to be studying a relevant and accredited degree in Mechanical or Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, Naval Architecture/ Marine Engineering or Civil Engineering and heading for a minimum 2:2. You must also be a British national and you will need to undergo MOD security clearance, as well as taking a medical.
