Cavendish Nuclear has been working on the Pile Fuel Cladding Silo Retrieval project at the Sellafield site since 2011. This site contains the legacy of one of the UK’s earliest nuclear programmes in the 1950s. Together with Sellafield Ltd and our partner Bechtel, our scientists and engineers in Cavendish Nuclear have been working on retrieving hundreds of tonnes of highly radioactive waste from the site, while minimising hazards to the staff and environment throughout the process. This collaborative team has designed, manufactured, tested and installed six huge doors through which the waste will safely be retrieved.
