Getting things to happen how they should, when they should, is a science. And on this programme you’ll learn the secrets of how we do it. The programme lasts for three years, broken down into two long-term assignments and a few shorter stints on other projects. That way you’ll get a taste of the breadth of our work, but also see how we get from the start line to the finish line.
WHERE YOU CAN JOIN US
See the list below to find out more about the areas of our business that are offering places on our Project Management programme for autumn 2017. But no matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.
DEFENCE SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGYLearn more and apply
When asked to think of a high-tech organisation, you might be tempted to name a computer company. But our clients are among the most technology-driven organisations in the world. And our 900-strong Defence Systems Technology (DST) business designs, manufactures, integrates and supports some of their most complex systems which is why we ask for a minimum of a 2:1 degree. Our graduates use their expertise in mechanical, electrical, electronic and software engineering to help us deliver epic programmes, develop new technologies and offer end-to-end solutions. That’s why we look for people with real management potential, business acumen, and great communication skills. We also like our graduates to form an active community, which is why we have lots of clubs and societies – from basketball to running to karate to photography.
While you need to be ready and willing to move throughout your programme, graduates in Defence Systems Technology are mainly based at Bristol or Whetstone (Leicestershire).
WE WORK ON A ROLLING APPLICATION BASIS AND THIS ROLE IS NOW CLOSED WHILST WE REASSESS DEMAND AND CURRENT APPLICATIONS. IF REQUIRED, WE WILL REOPEN, SO PLEASE CHECK BACK ON A REGULAR BASIS.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
You’ll be making great friends with colleagues in commercial, financial and procurement functions over the course of the programme. That’s because watching the pennies is as important as watching the clock when delivering a project. With that professional network, you’ll tackle everything from organising massive technology demonstrations to complex design projects.
Expect to work on every kind of project – from technology demonstrations and capital design and manufacture, to in-service support and capability enhancement projects. Whatever the project, risks need to be identified and managed, stakeholder requirements satisfied, and the whole thing delivered on time and to budget.
WHAT YOU’LL GET OUT OF IT
We’ll make sure you get your professional stripes. The programme builds on the Association for Project Management (APM) Body of Knowledge and makes sure you get experience in all the key elements of the APM Competence Framework. Add to that learning from the best project managers in industry and support from your own mentor and you’ll be ready to go for the APMP qualification. And let’s not forget a competitive starting salary of £27,000 - £30,000.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
A 2:1 BEng (Hons) degree in Engineering, Business or an equivalent subject is needed. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
