MARINE – PLYMOUTHLearn more and apply
As part of our Marine sector, our 5,500 strong business based out of Plymouth and Bristol (Keynsham) is a strategic partner to the MOD and the Royal Navy. We undertake 100% of submarine refits as well as 75% of UK surface fleet refits and 50% of fleet maintenance work. Half of the Royal Navy surface fleet is base-ported in Devonport, Plymouth including Type 23 frigates, the Amphibious Assault fleet and their hydrographic vessels.
To make the most of the opportunities Marine has to offer, you’ll need to have great technical skills along with the drive and aspiration to develop your career. Our graduates will have the opportunity to use their knowledge from either their engineering or business degrees to help us deliver our world-class programmes, develop new technologies and offer end to end solutions for our vast range of customers.
Your development programme will have a strong focus on undertaking a number of different placements which will be agreed in line with evolving business requirements and provide you with a high level of on the job training. You will also be given the fantastic opportunity to network and knowledge share your experiences through our modular two year Marine sector graduate development programme. Through these experiences you will come to understand the pivotal role you will play in our future success, how we function as an organisation, our internal culture, the importance of our customers and the wider business environment.
Your home base will be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth, but some of your placements may be at other Marine sector locations. As many of our programmes are available at more than one location you will have the opportunity, at the end of the online application form, to select a second and/or third choice location that you would want your application to be considered for.APPLY NOW
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Delivering projects of the scale we work on, against strict requirements, is an exact science. You’ll experience this firsthand. You’ll be helping to develop plans of key valuation activities, preparing costing and valuation proposals and reviewing technical specifications and responses to tenders or quotations. All the time making sure that we comply with industry regulations and statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
WHAT YOU’LL GET OUT OF IT
From initial project definition and brief, to design cost appraisal, procurement, construction and building use, you’ll learn how to deliver effective and timely quantity surveying solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to work with clients and a wide variety of construction professionals as part of multidisciplinary teams. And a training scheme will support your ongoing professional development. You’ll also enjoy a competitive starting salary of £28k - £30k.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You’ll need a 2:2 RICS-accredited degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management. You’ll need to be highly motivated, with good communication and time management skills. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
