Babcock is a leading provider of critical, complex engineering services across defence, emergency services and civil nuclear markets in the UK and more widely across the globe.
Our business in Plymouth is a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
To make the most of the opportunities Babcock has to offer, you’ll need to have great technical skills, along with the drive and aspiration to develop your career. Our graduates will have the opportunity to use and apply their knowledge and skills, gained from either engineering or business degrees, to help us deliver our world-class programmes, develop new technologies and offer innovative solutions for our customers.
Your development programme will have a strong focus on undertaking a number of different placements which will be agreed in line with evolving business requirements and provide you with a high level of on-the-job training. You will also be given the fantastic opportunity to network and share your experiences through our modular two-year graduate development programme. Through these experiences you will understand the pivotal role you will play in our future success, how we function as an organisation, the importance of our customers and the wider business environment in which we operate.
Depending on your programme your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other Marine sector locations. As many of our programmes are available at more than one location you will have the opportunity, at the end of the online application form, to select a second and/or third choice location that you would want your application to be considered for.
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE BUT IF WE DO NOT MEET OUR REQUIRED QUOTA WE WILL REOPEN THE ROLE SO PLEASE CHECK BACK ON A REGULAR BASIS.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Delivering projects of the scale we work on, against strict requirements, is an exact science. You’ll experience this first-hand. All the time making sure that we comply with industry regulations and statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
WHAT YOU’LL GET OUT OF IT
From initial project definition and brief, to design cost appraisal, procurement, construction and building use, you’ll learn how to deliver effective and timely quantity surveying solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to work with clients and a wide variety of construction professionals as part of multidisciplinary teams. A training scheme will support your ongoing professional development. You’ll also enjoy a competitive starting salary of £29k - £31k.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You’ll need a 2:2 degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management – an RICS-accredited degree is desirable. You’ll need to be highly motivated, with good communication and time management skills. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
